Semarang, May 2025 — A team of lecturers from the Vocational School of Diponegoro University carried out a Community Service Program in Ngrapah Village, Banyubiru District, Semarang Regency. The activity, titled “Local Product Innovation: Transforming Village Food Ingredients into High-Value Products,” aimed to empower groups of housewives through training and mentoring in the production of processed food products based on local ingredients.
The program, led by Raden Roro Diana Atika Ghozali, S.E., M.Ak., with team members Rifki Adhi Prasetyo, S.E., M.Ak. and Rinti Dwijayantie, M.Ak., was conducted over a four-month period with funding support from the 2023 DIPA of the Vocational School, Diponegoro University.
Ngrapah Village, located in the Rawa Pening area, has abundant freshwater fish resources. Recognizing this potential, the team provided training on making pempek (a traditional Indonesian fish cake) using local fish as the main ingredient. The participants were also taught modern packaging techniques, cost of goods calculation, and marketing strategies, both offline and online.
“We want the women in Ngrapah Village not only to be able to produce food products but also to understand their economic value and how to market them,” explained Diana Atika. “This program is expected to be an initial step toward building economic independence based on local food resources.”
Throughout the program, participants showed great enthusiasm in every training session—from the production process to marketing assistance. The products resulting from the training were also taste-tested and well-received by the local community.
Moving forward, the team plans to assist in forming a collective business unit or village cooperative to support the sustainability of production and marketing. The main output of this program is a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for Pempek Production and Packaging, which can serve as a standardized production guide for local communities and MSMEs in the area.
This activity reflects the commitment of the Vocational School of Diponegoro University to supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 1 (No Poverty) and Goal 2 (Zero Hunger), through community empowerment based on local potential.
