Semarang, June 2025 — As a concrete form of academic contribution to supporting community economic empowerment, a team of lecturers from the D4 Tax Accounting Study Program, Vocational School of Diponegoro University, carried out a community service program entitled “Introduction to Simple Bookkeeping with Excel for MSMEs in Ngrapah Village, Banyubiru District, Semarang Regency.” This activity was conducted over five consecutive months, from February to June 2025, involving 30 MSME (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) participants from various sectors, including culinary, handicrafts, and trade.

The community service team was led by Diva Ayu Imandasari, S.E., M.Ak., CA., a lecturer from the Tax Accounting Study Program, and consisted of Tri Nurul Khomidah, S.Pd., M.Ak., Eiffeliena Nur A.F.P., S.E., Akt., M.M., M.Fin.An., Ibnu Muttaqin, S.Pd., M.Si., and Lindu Aji Santoso, a student of the same program. Utilizing Microsoft Excel as the primary tool, the activity aimed to enhance the capacity of MSME actors in recording business finances in a simple, accurate, and sustainable manner.

The program was conducted using an educational-participatory approach, including material presentations, hands-on practice, and intensive one-on-one mentoring. The training materials were contextually tailored to the real needs of the business owners, covering topics such as cash flow recording, simple profit and loss calculations, and categorization of daily transactions. Participants were provided with ready-to-use Excel templates that could be immediately applied to their daily business operations.

The results of the program demonstrated a highly positive impact. Based on the final evaluation, 96.7% of participants reported a clear understanding of the importance of business bookkeeping, and over 90% stated that using Excel was more efficient than manual record-keeping. Participants also acknowledged the benefits in terms of financial transparency, easier business performance evaluation, and increased trust from business partners.

This community service initiative not only served as a means for applying academic knowledge beyond the classroom but also reflected the university’s commitment to supporting local economic development. In the long term, the program is expected to become a replicable model for digitally empowering MSMEs in rural areas, proving that even simple technology can lead to meaningful transformation when applied appropriately.

The Tax Accounting Study Program of the Vocational School of Diponegoro University remains committed to being part of the solution to societal challenges by integrating vocational education with community service based on real-world needs.
