Friday, September 20, 2024, 13.00 to 15.00 WIB, the Tax Accounting Study Program, Vocational School, Diponegoro University hosted the Dharma Wanita Persatuan Vocational School of Diponegoro University event. The activity, which is held once a month, carries the theme “Fun Gardening with Hydroponics”. The meeting place was held in the Meeting Room, Building A, Vocational School, 4th Floor, with the speaker Mrs. Panca Wahyuningsih S.E., M.Si as a hydroponic activist. Also attending the event were the Chairperson of the Dharma Wanita Persatuan and all members of the Dharma Wanita Persatuan Vocational School of Diponegoro University.

Fulfilling the need for healthy food is a challenge today, considering the many vegetables that contain pesticides. Hydroponics was chosen as an alternative to meet the need for healthy, clean and cheap food in the midst of increasingly narrow agricultural land due to large-scale development. On this Dharma Wanita meeting opportunity, Mrs. Panca gave a detailed explanation of efforts to utilize narrow land by using water from the installation as a hydroponic medium. Furthermore, Mrs. Panca also provided a basic explanation of plant cultivation techniques using the hydroponic method. Mrs. Panca also said that the success of hydroponics cannot be separated from the media with stable mineral content, the appropriate water pH so as not to inhibit the ability of the roots to absorb nutrients.

The Chairperson of the Dharma Wanita Persatuan, Dwi Erlina Estuningtyas Budiyono, said that the presentation of the material on Fun Gardening with Hydroponics, can utilize the land available in the home environment. Dwi Erlina added that awareness of hydroponics can also maintain household independence in providing healthy food, reduce the cost of purchasing food ingredients, reduce dependence and can even increase income if empowered properly. For example, hydroponic lettuce with a high selling price and is in great demand by the community.

This activity is expected not to stop in the form of a seminar but to be brought as a souvenir to improve the culture of gardening in each member’s home. Hydroponics can produce various household needs such as red spinach, caisim, pakcoy. Hydroponics was chosen as the theme for the Dharma Wanita Persatuan event because it has various advantages, including faster harvest time, and hydroponic planting results that are considered pest-resistant and minimize contamination and pesticide use. The Dharma Wanita Persatuan activity was closed with a photo session with invited guests, distribution of door prizes and distribution of seeds which are expected to be the beginning of a hydroponic culture at home.
